Oakwood began their 2025/26 U14 campaign in the highly competitive Epsom & Ewell League with an action-packed 4–4 draw against Teddington – visitors to Tinsley Lane for the first time in their history.

On a warm Saturday morning, perfect for football, Oakwood settled the quicker of the two sides. Some neat combination play between Daniel, Charlie and Theo helped the home side get into their rhythm early on. The pressure paid off when Jake Merryweather poked home from Lukas’ corner to give Oakwood a deserved lead.

Teddington, however, grew into the game and capitalised on a mistake in midfield to level the score. Oakwood responded positively, creating a flurry of chances but were unable to restore their advantage until Coaches Kirk and Kieron made changes from the bench. Substitute Adam Baccar was quickest to react in the box, turning the ball home to make it 2–1 at half-time.

The second half began with Teddington on the front foot, and a long ball over the top caught out the Oakwood defence, allowing the visitors to score with a fine strike into the top corner. Just before the hour mark, another misplaced pass from Oakwood was punished as Teddington broke away to take a 3–2 lead.

With time running out, the Oakwood substitutes once again made a difference. Merryweather, reintroduced from the bench, turned provider for the impressive Baccar, who slammed home his second of the game to make it 3–3 with just eight minutes remaining.

Oakwood’s pressure finally told again when Merryweather poked home to restore the lead at 4–3 with four minutes left, sparking hopes of a dramatic opening-day victory. But deep into stoppage time, heartbreak struck: a hopeful Teddington long ball caused confusion in the Oakwood defence, allowing the visiting striker to nip in and slot into an empty net.

It finished 4–4 in a thrilling contest – a game in which Oakwood felt they deserved all three points but can take plenty of positives from an encouraging opening-day performance.
