Oakwood
Football Club played host to a local charity group on Saturday when "The
Olive Tree" successfully launched their 2007 "Lively Ladies" calender.
Produced in
true "Calender Girls"
style with a different picture and caption for each month, the calender
is just one idea for fundraising for the self financing group that helps
those who are diagnosed with all forms of cancer and their families.
Based in the
grounds of Crawley Hospital, the group offers vital support and
information for patients being treated for cancer,
and also helps the families of those patients to understand the process,
also providing complimentary therapies and self help classes.
The idea for
the calender was formulated by one former patient who found inspiration
from "The Olive Tree" during her treatment where, once in remission,
she rallied her friends and other former patients to produce a
celebratory tribute to the group, in an attempt to raise much needed
funds.
The Olive
Tree is a drop in centre open to anyone diagnosed with, or being treated
for cancer, and the group is hoping to sell the 1000 calenders it had
printed to raise much needed resources. The launch was heralded a real
success by organisers with nearly 500 calenders being sold on the night.
For more
information about "The Olive Tree" or how to purchase a calender contact
them directly on 01293-534465, alternatively they can be purchased from the
clubhouse at Oakwood Football Club.

development fund.
The fund has been set up by the club to help the Oaks meet
the National FA ground grading improvements necessary to remain as a Senior Club.
This will involve the completion of a hard standing on two
further sides of the ground, the erection of covered seating for 200, and the installation
of turnstiles to fully enclose the pitch from the car park area.
Initiatives are being put into place to help raise the
required funding so that work may commence inside 18 months. Updates will be posted
regularly.
